Today, in my native speakers’ class, we were talking about the importance and purpose of art.
After a discussion and viewing urban art, we took some time to look closer at all of the student created artwork that hangs on my classroom walls.
Some are recreations of famous Spanish artists’ works, some deal with social issues such as drugs, corruption, abuse, poverty and racism, some represent anxiety and depression, some represent holidays, etc.
As we were talking about some of them, one student asked if she could have “that one” and “that one”. She was so happy when I told her “YES!”. Then another couple of students asked if they could have “that one” and “ooh that one”. I gladly said, “yes”
Everyone in our building will move to the brand new school so clean up is in order. However, I don’t know where I’ll be next school year, but I’m sure I won’t be able to take all I’ve acquired.
There is A LOT of student art on my walls, and today, those students presented a solution to my struggle in finding a place for it other than the recycle bin.
Grateful for the little blessings!
